In my opinion, this is probably the only service-related business where every
facet revolves around an enjoyable pastime.
I cater to the everyday person that loves to fish and to the fishermen that are
serious about catching many fish. The game and fish commission claims that
90% of fishermen catch 10% of the fish caught and 10% of fishermen catch 90%
of the fish caught.
A fish has advantages over fishermen because the fish is it's environment. We
are on it's turf. The fish reproduces by instincts. The only thing that a fish does
when it wants to, is eat. It is a feeding machine. Fishing, therefore, is trying to
convince this eating machine to eat something slightly different from it's natural
prey. The reason why 10% of the fishermen catch 90% of the fish is that they
have increased their advantages by concentrating on at least 3 important facets
of fishing: equipment, locating the concentrations of fish, and proper
presentation of a convincing bait.
The most successful people in any endeavor from surgery to real estate to
fishing use the most functional tools available to them.
Smoothness and spool speed for greater casting distance in a reel coupled with
increased sensitivity, and greater casting distance in a custom rod often make
the difference between catching 2 fish and 2 limits of fish.
When a customer leaves my shop I am certain that he is pleased with my work.
There is no "gray area." His equipment does not leave my shop unless it is
functioning properly.
